  18. Unless I'm misunderstanding your question, the answer
  19. is rather simple:

  21. If you used non-true dimensions, and then subsequently
  22. changed \magnification, you will find that offsets and
  23. page size are also magnified, leading to larger left
  24. and top margins and smaller right and bottom margins on
  25. the real page (which always remains the same size :->
  26. ).
